'SKIN TOO FEW' 2024 Single release for International Radio
The album title 'Get Lucid' was spawned one afternoon while being lounge lizards at Cactus Beach in South Australia, with iridescent clouds above because of diffraction in the sky. Just like our day out of society, the title came to mind like an epiphany that was inspired earlier by a conversation with local surfer of wisdom, Mr. Sunny Corcoran.

The simplicity life should include while getting other things done was the message for becoming lucid in life. While under the influences of the day resting in the sand, it all made sense and so began the path to clarity. Get Lucid on the transcendental' man, just poured out of mouth and into the universe, with a mutual nod to let the work begin.
The album is a body of work comprising of seventeen songs where not all will make the cut, and will remain B sides for the future. The studio sessions derive from over thirty five Nullabor plain crossings between Western & South Australia.
With our home lives, touring Australia and time for recording, Scott Bassham & Justin Francisreentered the studio with longtime engineer, Dave Lokan at Big Sound studio's in Adelaide. All songs are now mixed ready for mastering and will be available soon. In 2019 after releasing the first single 'Skin Too Few' only in Australia, an untimely forced long service leave ensured forcing the band off the road for many years. Trips to Adelaide still enabled us to continue work on the album sporadically.
That time has now passed and the single will be released to international radio in the coming months. The wheels are in motion again and Ill Starred Captain look forward to sharing this body of work with the wider world in 2024. In the meantime there are more sounds to sculpt for listening pleasure and stay tuned with more news to come soon.
The single 'Skin Too Few' was released only in Australia back in 2019.
After a lengthy break between releases, two-piece band 'ill-Starred Captain' have just dropped their first single from their upcoming album, “Get Lucid', On The Transcendental”. The new song is called “Skin Too Few”, and it is a proud and passionate call to arms.
Driven by finger picked acoustic guitar and banjo, the song has a tense and soulful bluegrass feel, but Justin Francis’s explosive drum work and Scott Bassham’s wiry electric guitar underpin lyrics that explore the nature and need for empathy in a strange and careless world.
Additional lead guitar work by the bands long term recording engineer, Dave Lokan, lifts the song, and the entire piece has a building drama and momentum that transcends its initial simplicity.
